How To Design Rafter Roofs ?
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010Presently, there are many different roofing styles such as hip, shed, valley, and gable. However, each style would be incomplete without roof rafters. The rafters are the main structural members of the roof, extending down from the ridge beam to the walls.
It is simply an uncomplicated task. But, one should be very careful while cutting and placing them. A small mistake or negligence can trouble the complete set up and the roof design and integrity as well. Learn some steps on how to construct the rafters through this article.
First step is to arrange a rafter board of 2 by 6 inches and fit it into two saw horses, one at each side. Measure and cut pitch angle at one end of the board. Similarly, on the other end, make a right angled notch cut in the upper side of the rafter for fitting some longitudinal part. Well, this is shortly known as a bird mouth.
Both the pitch cut as well as the bird mouth should be cut in a way that pitch lies flush with the ridge beam and the other rests like having a shape of wedge. With the help of a circular saw, cut the remaining ends of the board.
