How Much Pure Water Do You Want To Have ?
When you would measure the purity of your distilled water then it can be determined by your definition of purity. Water that is 100% pure, do not contain anything except H20. But is it the water that we want? It does not contain even the things that are good for our health.
You will certainly find some minerals dissolved in the naturally occurring water. The common minerals found in such water are: sodium and potassium. These minerals are good for your health and are called as electrolytes inside your body.
If you want to remove dissolved minerals and things with boiling point higher than water then distillation process is a good option to go with. But by distillation process alone, you can not take out chlorine and its byproducts from the water and you need go for some more steps to free your water from all the harmful minerals.
When you would say that you want a pure water solution then that water would be free from all the chemical contaminants except the trace minerals unlike the distillation process. Pure water solution that does not contain trace minerals is used in certain industries and other applications.
One factor that greatly affects the purity of distilled water is the cleanliness of the reservoir. If the reservoir is not sterilized prior to the process, there is a good chance that bacteria will be present. If the apparatus itself is not cleaned thoroughly and frequently, scales will form which has a negative affect on the water’s purity.
Using deionization method, you can remove all the minerals from the water including bromide and chloride to a certain degree. It will produce pure water for applications that require de-mineralized water. However, bacteria or harmful viruses can not be removed by this method.
One other popular method for purifying water and eliminating mineral content from it is reverse osmosis. You can also use chemical softener for it. If you want to filter water for drinking then don’t use these options rather go for multi-stage purifier. In these water purifiers, there is a layer of granular carbon and other media that traps the chemicals and use the process of ion exchange to capture metals like lead.
Many companies say that the water produced by them is highly pure but you can’t believe on their words. You need to check if the water is free from E-coli, cysts, chemicals and other contaminants or not.
