Ornamental and landscaping trees that add to spring beauty
It’s no secret that spring’s the best time to ‘upgrade’ your landscape beauty factor. Fast growing trees are the best choices such projects. Those of you on the lookout for tall trees should consider planting White Pine seedlings. These hardy perennials are guaranteed to grow fast for the first 100 years. Three year old seedlings, on planting, can be expected to shoot up to 6′ within the next 6-7 years. They can be put to use for ornamentation and landscaping purposes and can also act as wind breakers and privacy screens. These pines have green-blue, 4″ needles, do well under direct sunlight and thrive in wet areas.
Serbian Spruce trees occupy second position on my list. Many well-established tree farms are now selling these trees at rates well below wholesale prices. If the trees are already at a height of 5-6′, it’s hard for them to be shipped due to their size and weight. So, it’s a better idea to drive up to a local nursery and have them loaded onto your vehicle. The trees usually come with well explained planting and care guides. Another advantage of picking them personally is that you can be sure you’re getting healthy specimens.
Counted among the prettiest landscaping choices are the Honey Locust trees. Spring season is a perfect time to plant seedlings that can be expected to grow quickly. Not only do they lend beauty and provide shade, they are also famous for attracting wildlife with their pretty yellow blooms. These hardy trees withstand hot and arid conditions well, making them ideal choices for cityscapes.
If you’re into the tropical look, then Alexandra Palms are the ones for you. Three year old seedlings usually stand between 4-10 inches tall and grow to a height of 50-80 inches with fronds spreading 10-15 ft. If you live in a colder region, you could consider growing them in pots indoors. Warmer climates encourage outdoor growth of these stately palms under both direct and partial sunlight conditions.
Oak Tree Seedlings, those old, reliable favorites are just as popular today and can be bought in pots covered with soil. These seedlings is currently available for online sale in all states except the following, which enforce different legal specifications on incoming shipments – Arizona, California, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The Oak seedling, on attaining maturity, can reach a height ranging between 40-80 ft. It’s also capable of providing shade over an area spanning 50-80 ft, a result of its magnificent spread. It grows well in direct and partial sunlight.
Any of you that come across rare Sycamore Maple trees are advised to pick them up immediately. Once past the dormant stage they begin to put out leaves rapidly and are known for their ability to withstand harsher conditions than other maples, including salt spray, drought, city smog and harsh winds. Mature Sycamores generally grow to a height of 60-70 ft though they’re said to be capable of reaching 100ft. They are ideal for landscaping.
The stately American elms — also referred to as White elms — are famous for their graceful beauty and quick growth. Though once popular throughout the US, they were badly hit by Dutch elm disease with survivors mainly restricted to the Midwest and the Canadian Prairies. These quick growing trees, when ordered, arrive with their roots covered in damp paper in ready-to-plant condition.
Fraser Firs, though occupying the last position on my list, are most definitely not the least deserving. These lovely firs grow very rapidly, giving off a glossy, dense appearance. The dark green needles are super soft and have a silvery underside making them very desirable additions to a variety of landscapes. They thrive in well drained soil even without the benefit of full sunlight. On maturity, these can grow to stand 60 ft tall. They make great windbreakers, Christmas trees, borders and screens.
