The primary priority of any koi pond keeper, indeed of any fish pond keeper, it to preserve the pond water at a high level of hygiene. This basically means that you have to keep the nitrate and ammonia levels down. However, the fish will not help in this endeavour, and nor can they, since they live and defecate in their surroundings, the water. You could rightly say that the live in their own toilet bowl.
Therefore, it is up to you, as their benefactor, to keep their water as clean as possible. This is actually not so difficult and much or the decontamination process can be automated, leaving you, the owner, to only have to carry out routine, weekly tests.
The first check that you should carry out can be done on a daily basis if not more often, when you give food to your fish, does the water look clear? Is it green? Are there lots of leaves floating around in it? If it is clear enough to see the bottom of the pond, you are probably doing OK, but do not rely on that, wait for the weekly chemical check up.

Do you like the sound of moving water? Do you find the sound relaxing? Well, you can easily produce the sound of running water in your own garden. You can put in a fish pond or a water garden. So, if you think that your garden requires landscaping, it might be a good time to think about a fish pond or water garden.
People think that a fish pond takes lot of looking after, but that is not inevitably true. The truth is that the larger the fish pond, the less effort you have to put into it. This is because a big pond can create its own ecosystem, whereas a small fish pond needs help.
The ways that you can help a small fish pond be a decent environment for your fish are as follows:
Pond Filters – use a pond filter with a good pump. Do not forget that you could get a solar powered pump. It will save on the environment and on your wallet. You should use a pond filter on a small pond, because the ecosystem cannot deal with all the plant waste of a small ornamental pond on its own. A pond pump will supply the filtration system and a waterfall or fountain if you wish.

It is never a bad idea to clean and freshen up your pond every couple of months. It often occurs that ponds and watercourses get clogged up with organic matter. No matter what the size of your water feature you can get a clean pond naturally using Bioverse products. Bioverse have been involved with treating water for more than ten years and have thousands of satisfied customers.
Environmental problems and concerns are now a common topic of conversation. We are all aware of ways we can do our bit to protect the environment. It is still common to find people using copper sulphate to remove or control algae. Now there is no longer any need to use such a potentially harmful chemical. There are natural products available that do not cause any damage.
If you need to clean a natural water body then by choosing a Bioverse product you will know that you will not affect the ecosystem. Transitional and wetland plants are not going to have any form of cell damage and the water will be more healthy.

One of the best ways to clean pond algae and maintain algae control naturally is by investigating some of the natural products that work the the pond’s ecosystem. When a cleaning element can naturally enhance the pond’s water quality without offering the difficulties of a chemically based cleaning agent, you can see and even smell the difference.
In order to develop algae control naturally and create a clean pond you want a product that can break down the organic material of algae sludge. For most green organic material, this doesn’t have to be a harsh chemical process. An alga is created in standing water because the water lacks oxygenation and filtration. Algae aren’t eradicated through harsh treatments in nature.
Your pond hosts more companions than you know. You have developed a mini ecosystem, and its impact can be felt throughout the surrounding ecosystem.
Treating your pond with anything other than a natural algae cleaner seems rather counterintuitive considering that you need two basic elements to make it go away.

Hello and welcome to this article on breeding Koi, today I am going to be giving you some tips and information on how you should go about breeding Koi.
Firstly it may interest you to know that the best times of the year to breed Koi is during the months of April to July.
This has been proven by studies and from my own experience this is the best time for mating.
Now the 1st step you are going to take when breeding your Koi is to choose the Koi who you want to breed. When I am breeding Koi I choose to breed my favourite coloured koi.
So when you have chosen your favourite Koi to do the mating the next thing you need to do is to make sure they are sexually mature, A sexually mature Koi is usually around 9-10 inches long.
The next breeding Koi step after you have chosen your Koi you want to mate is to put them in a separate pond or tank.
The tank that you put them in needs a few specific things for them to mate successfully.

The Koi fish has been on the planet for hundreds of years. A descendent of the Japanese magoi carp they are prized for their beautiful shapes and brilliant colors, especially with the right Koi care. There are several varieties including the fancy fantail Koi which has draping fins and tails. The beautiful fish can be a combination of black, red, yellow, white and orange and it has been known to grow to three feet long and weigh more than forty pounds with the right Koi care.
The Koi is known to be a hardy fish that seldom sickens or dies without an underlying reason. The original magoi carp was known to survive harsh conditions and nasty parasites with little to no affects. However, man has weakened the strain as the Koi has been inbred to obtain the most prized shapes and colors. Even so, with proper care the Koi can still live for decades.
When Koi dies it is usually because the water is lacking oxygen, the water quality is poor; the fish has ulcer disease or parasites. Other factors in the death of the fish include toxic pesticides, virus, tumors, and medication overdose. So as you see, these are all things that could have been avoided with the proper diligence. Predators are also a problem as is the fish jumping out of the water.

If you already have a pond on your property, or you are looking to build one, one way to make it extra special is to add some Black Koi. Black Koi are as versatile as they are beautiful, and make a great addition to any pond.
However, before getting any type of live animal, it is a good idea to do a little background research. This is to ensure you will be able to handle the care and maintenance of the animal, and that you will be a good fit for each other.
If you didn’t already know, Koi is just another name for carp, which is a large species of fish that originated somewhere around Asia and Central Europe. There were several species of carp even in the beginning, and this led them to be easily domesticated throughout South East Asia and China. They were even used as a food source in and around Asia. By the time the fish made it to Japan, they became known as Koi. This creature is extremely hardy, and can withstand many different climates and water types and conditions. This hardiness is what allowed Koi to spread throughout Japan and many other new locations.

The season is going to determine how you feed your Koi. Since Koi are cold blooded, their metabolism changes based on the temperature of the water where they reside. Feeding Koi too much food during cold weather and not enough during hot weather can be quite hazardous to them. Luckily, though, Koi feeding is not a science, but does require that you use some care. As long as you follow the correct Koi feeding instructions, there should be no issues with having healthy Koi for years to come.
One really great way to ensure that you are feeding your Koi in the right way is to have a pond thermometer provide you an accurate temperature reading of your pond water all year round. When the weather is cold, their metabolism slows down, so you definitely don?t want to overfeed. They will not be able to process the food they eat and it is important to realize that fish don?t really know when to stop eating. That is why they are easily overfed. In the summer, their metabolism speeds up and this is when they tend to grow, so daily feedings are a good idea.
