What You Must Know About Koi Disease
Koi disease is a huge disaster to any Koi owner. I am writing this article today to help inform people about Koi disease.
When we keep Koi they become almost like family to us so it is very sad at the thought of any of our Koi getting a disease so hopefully this article will help you to prevent this from happening.
So first off I will let you know that the most important aspect of preventing Koi disease is to make sure they have clean water.
So what you need to keep your pond water clean and healthy is a good filter and the water needs to be well oxygenized, you can do this by installing some sort of water feature or a pump.
If Koi dont have clean oxygenated water it can lead to health problems such as parasites and bacterial disease.
So after you have made sure that your water is clean and oxygenized the next important this is that your pond is the right size for your Koi.
For you pond to be a good size it needs to be atleast three feet deep. And no less than 1 thousand gallons.
It is important to know that aswell as your pond being at least 1000 gallons you should have no more than 1 to 2 Koi per two hundred gallons of water.
So you may already know that there are 3 main sections when it comes to Koi disease. The first is viruses, second is parasites and third is bacterial disease.
When it comes to symptoms that there is something wrong your look out for unbalanced Koi, Koi not eating and Koi that are rubbing against pond objects.
Some other serious signs to look for are swelled eyes, dull colour, Koi losing weight or fin rott.
If you notice any of the symptoms listed then there is a chance that your Koi have parasites but as they are so small we can’t see them so you will have to get your Koi checked under a microscope.
It’s not nice to know that some Koi diseases will wipe out Koi very quickly with hardly any symptoms, although this is quite rare.
Hopefully this wont ever happen to you. If you keep a clean healthy pond you will reduce the chances of Koi disease.
